Civil Engineering

Civil Engineering

Civil Engineering is a versatile and fundamental branch among the other engineering branches. This branch has a lot of diversity right from geotechnical sciences to structural engineering, environmental to hydraulics, transportation to hydrology. VemanaIT offers wide promising career opportunities and professional advancement in Civil Engineering. Career opportunities exist in the public and private sectors in the areas of design, construction and maintenance, infrastructure development in both India and abroad. Many opportunities exist in developing countries in the Middle East, Africa and Asia where infrastructure development is picking up and Indian engineers are in great demand.

This department was started in the year 2014 with an intake of 60 students. Modernisation of laboratories and types of equipment are in process too. The students are encouraged to participate in various extra co-curricular activities as well.

VISION

To become a department of brilliance that brings out civil engineers with specialized skills and advances high – end exploration to meet the present and future challenges in civil engineering with ethical values

MISSION

To offer quality education consistent with the present and future needs of a profession serving an increasingly complex technological society.

To strengthen industry-institute interface, research and entrepreneur skills that add value to student competencies.

To enhance moral and ethical values among the students with the effective learning environment and with the use of state of the art resources.

Labs offered:

  • Basic material testing laboratory : Civil Engineering deals with use of various construction materials. It is vital for the engineers to learn about the strength and durability parameters of these materials. This laboratory aims to equip the students with the knowledge of properties of various construction materials with the use of Modern tools and Technologies
    Major Equipment’s
    • Universal Testing Machine
    • Compress Testing Machine
    • Torsion Testing Machine
  • Survey Lab: Surveying is a key component in any construction activity. Students here are imparted with the knowledge and techniques of surveying, using conventional and modern tools to faces the challenges of the society and seek to improve the quality of survey.
Extensive Survey Camp Laboratory (Even Semester)
Students are exposed to the real time projects in terms of infrastructure development of any locality by providing means of Transportation, Water Supply and Sewage Disposal.
    Major Equipment’s
    • Total Station
    • Digital Planimeter
  • Geology Lab: Geology lab consists of 100 numbers of Mineral Specimens, 100 numbers of Rock Specimens, Specimens for Hardness, Cleavage, Fracture and Geological models, etc.
  • CAD Lab“: This lab provides the deep knowledge in the design planning and analysis of civil engineering structures. The lab consists of 30 desktop systems installed with licensed software’s like Auto CAD Staad Pro and Etabs which has a huge demand in the civil engineering industry.
  • Geotechnical Engineering Lab“: Study of soil and its properties is an important aspect in the field of Civil Engineering. The Geo-technical laboratory deals with the study of soil, its functions, its properties and applications in the field of Civil Engineering. Lab consists of major equipment’s such as CBR Apparatus, Consolidation Apparatus, UCC Apparatus, Direct Shear Apparatus, Tri-Axial Apparatus.
  • Environmental Lab“: In the laboratory, students are trained to analyze water and waste water parameters, by which they will be able to interpret the results and compare it with Indian standards of water and waste water quality. It consists of major equipment’s such as spectrophotometer, muffle furnace.
  • Concrete & Highway Material Testing Lab“: In any construction activity Cement and Concrete play a very major role and are used huge quantities. The laboratory aims at Testing, Analyzing and Designing cement and concrete parameters. The laboratory also educates the students regarding the properties of Pavement materials such as Bitumen and Coarse aggregate. Lab consists of major equipment’s such as Los-Angeles, CTM, Benkelman Beam, Marshall’s Stability Apparatus.

Survey project Camp

Academic Survey Project conducted for VI semester civil students at Melkote

Our department would also like to add about the academic survey project conducted for VI semester civil students at Melkote this year from January 10th to 19th 2018.

Everything gets measured in terms of its value. As we value our students, it is our priority to serve them with knowledge and hands on experience. As part of this we had taken our students to survey camp to Melkote, one of the best suitable place to conduct survey as it consists of several hilly terrains and is amidst the nature’s best.

The students were accompanied by staff members who were in charge for each group of students .They were excited to learn about the various terrains, curves, arcs etc.. and also to use the civil instruments in its real applications. The entire camp period was evenly split for all the tasks and drawings involved and our students made the most benefit out of the camp. They conducted survey on NTP (2 days), Highway planning (2 days), Water supply and village planning (2 days), OTP (2 days) Layout planning (1 day) and so on… The students were provided good accommodation and food during their stay on all the 10 days.

INDUSTRIAL VISIT – WATER TREATMENT PLANT (BWSSB)

6th semester civil students visited WATER TREATMENT PLANT (BWSSB) on 27/03/2018

INDUSTRIAL VISIT – METRO CASTING YARD.

Final year civil students visited Reach 5 metro casting yard at chandapura on 02/04/2018 and 03/04/2018.
