The department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) was established in the year 1999. Since its establishment, there has been continuous development in laboratory facilities, research activities in core areas such as Power Electronics, SPV systems, Image Processing and Netwroking and the number of students intake.

Currently, the department has one operational UG program with an intake of 120 and two PG programs- VLSI Design & Embedded Systems and Digital Electronics & Communication with an intake of 18 each. The department has 25 experienced and dedicated faculty members who contribute to VIT’s motto of imparting the students with quality education. Most of the faculty are involved in research activities in various fields.  Exceptional professors with hands on teaching methodologies rank Vemana Institute as one of the top 10 engineering collages and best ranked in Electronics and Communication Engineering in Bangalore, Karnataka, India.

The department has an approved R&D Center with globally recognised measuring instruments, headed by two professors, Dr. A Ramachandran and Dr. R Srinivasan who are eminent retired Scientists from National Labs with immense experience in Research as well as academics.

The department has seven Laboratories with all essential equipments and softwares such as Cadence, MATLAB, Microcontroller, HDL tools etc. With the state of art lab facilities that provides practical oriented education, Electronics and Communication Engineering department of Vemana is ranked as one of the best in Bangalore in state of Karnataka, India

The department regularly organises guest Lectures and Seminars from eminent and expert speakers of IISc, ISRO, DRDO, NAL to keep the students and staff in line with the latest technologies. Inspiration from such prominent & bright minds, helps our students dream big and achieve big in lives of their own.

Faculty Development Programme on Network Simulator" on January 22-24, 2018

Faculty Development Programme on NS-2 & NS-3 (network simulator)

Department of Electronics & communication Engg. Vemana IT Organized 3 days FDP on network simulator (22nd-24th Jan 2018) in association with Impulse systems.

The main objective of this FDP is to understand the simulation of wireless networks through hands-on experience in designing and implementing wireless networks in terms of energy models, bandwidth and reliability parameters. The tool focuses on the various technical topics and simulation of wireless networks in general and in particular mobile ad-hoc networks.

Program inaugurated by Chief Guest Dr.Shivamurthy G, Professor & HoD, Dept of MCA/CSE, Centre of PG studies VTU extension center, Muddenahalli. The program continued with introductory talk by Dr. T. Yella Reddy, Dean R&D, Vemana IT. More than 40 participants from various engineering colleges and industry were present in the program.

A 3 day hands on Industry workshop on “TIIC Lab Tools “had been organized by ECE/TE departments in coordination with “Texas Instruments, Bangalore”. The workshop has covered concepts and importance of Analog design using MSP430, Wireless Integration, Introduction to Tiva-C and MSP430F5529, MSP430FR5989 Launch pad, CCV6, UART communication between two launch pads, Overview of Energia, Design of wireless sensor networking applications, client server communication, Internet of things and SPI communication between two launch pads. The technical talk was presided by MH Babu who is a technical Manager in TATA Consultancy Sevices.His area of expertise are FPGA design, development and testing in different areas like telecom, automotive, aerospace, etc. … He addressed the students of 6th sem ECE on 28th February. The following is the summary of this technical talk: He spoke about the application of VLSI, Embedded system design flow and VLSI design methodology. The Embedded system design flow included the explanation of the FPGA, Hardware, and software and Product Management chain. The various steps involved under VLSI design methodology was also explained.

The technical talk was on “Evolution of Wireless and Cellular Communications and challenges in 5G networks”. It was presided by Dr.Navin Kumar who is an associate professor in Amritha University, Bangalore Campus. He educated the students on Cellular Mobile evolution, Global goal of Wireless Technologies and explained how the network and services have evolved from 2G to3G.He also explained in detail the objectives, targets and service areas of 4G Technology. He concluded the talk by explaining the future of 5G technologies and possible research areas in wireless communication for interested candidates.

The final year ECE project students have visited Kodaikanal Solar Observatory

The final year ECE project students have visited Kodaikanal Solar Observatory, Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Kodaikanal from January 21 to 28, 2018. There are 8 students have visited and Dr. R. Kariyappa & Mrs. Hemamalini have coordinated and joined the visit. The purpose of the visit to use the solar telescopes to observe the Sun & to obtain the solar images for their projects. The Indian Institute of Astrophysics has approved the visit to use all the observing facilities and Principal had permitted and approved the visit from college. The students have observed the Sun using different telescopes and obtained the solar images to apply an image processing techniques for their proposed projects as part of their engineering course.
